BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC — The Brunswick NCWorks Career Center is highlighting the success of Matheus Fujii, a local young adult who advanced from unemployment to full‑time work in the electrical field through a combination of education, work‑based learning, and employer partnership.
Fujii enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth Program after losing his job and seeking a pathway into a skilled trade. Through WIOA, he received funding to attend the Electrical I program at Brunswick Community College, along with supportive services including mileage reimbursement, books, work boots, and an electrician starter kit.
While completing Electrical I, Fujii participated in a Work Experience (WEX) placement as an Electrician Apprentice, giving him the opportunity to apply classroom instruction in a real‑world setting. He successfully completed both the training program and the WEX assignment.
Following the WEX, Fujii was hired by Atlantic Coast Electrical Services LLC through an on‑the‑job training (OJT) contract, allowing him to continue building skills while earning wages. As his training progressed, he was awarded a Brunswick Community College Continuing Education Scholarship, which funded his enrollment in Electrical II. He completed the course while continuing hands‑on work with the company.
Today, Fujii is employed full‑time with Atlantic Coast Electrical Services LLC and continues to advance in the electrical trade.
This success story demonstrates how coordinated support, including education, financial assistance, work‑based learning, scholarships, and employer partnerships can help young adults enter high‑demand careers and secure long‑term employment in Brunswick County.
