ROBESON COUNTY, NC – The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) family gathered last week to honor the memory of one of their own, Master Trooper Stien Davis Jr., while providing a tangible show of support for the family he left behind.

Members from Troop B, District 7 joined the Davis family as they received significant contributions from two prominent law enforcement advocacy groups: the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police and the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association.

The donations serve as a testament to the cross-agency solidarity following the tragic loss of Trooper Davis, a 10-year veteran of the patrol who was killed in the line of duty on February 22, 2026.

A graduate of the 141st Basic Patrol School, Davis was a native of Lumberton and deeply rooted in the communities he protected. Known among his colleagues for his dedication to highway safety and a sharp sense of humor, he was frequently seen working multi-agency checkpoints alongside the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

The fatal incident occurred shortly after midnight on NC Highway 130 in Robeson County. While on duty, Davis’s patrol vehicle traveled off the roadway and overturned in a swampy area. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Community and Family Support

The recent presentations highlight the ongoing commitment to the families of fallen officers. The United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association often provides “End of Watch” grants to assist families with immediate financial needs, while the NC Association of Chiefs of Police offers support that frequently extends to scholarship funds and memorial contributions.

Davis is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Stocks; his fiancée, Chiara Strickland; and his siblings. He was also a devoted father to his young son, Stien Davis III, a role many colleagues noted was his greatest source of pride and motivation.

In an official statement, the NC State Highway Patrol expressed the depth of the regional support: “This Davis family, along with the entire NCSHP family, are extremely grateful for the support shown by our community and law enforcement partners. We extend our continued sympathies and prayers to the Davis family.”

The investigation into the exact cause of the crash remains ongoing by the NCSHP.
