SLED announces child‑death charges as Myrtle Beach police confirm a fourth teen arrest in a separate shooting investigation.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has charged Makiah Marie Long, 22, with Homicide by Child Abuse in a case that began in Horry County earlier this year. Investigators say Horry County Police initially responded in March when a 2‑year‑old was brought to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence with severe brain injuries. The child later died, and SLED assumed lead investigative authority. Long is also charged with two counts of Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child. The charges were publicly announced Friday, June 12.

In a separate case, authorities have arrested the 4th teenage, a suspect in connection with a recent shooting in the Myrtle Beach area. Police confirmed the additional juvenile arrest on June 12 as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident. No identifying information has been released due to the suspect’s age, but officials say the teen faces charges consistent with the earlier arrests in the case.

Both investigations remain active, and additional updates will be released as agencies make them available.
