WHITEVILLE — Three people were arrested Wednesday after Whiteville Police discovered what officers described as an extensive squatter camp containing trash, human waste, and makeshift shelters on private property.

GARY POLLARD, 58; BUFFY POLLARD, 52; and BRUCE POLLARD, 24, were each charged with littering hazardous waste and held under secured bonds, according to Detention Center records.

Officers were called to 269 Frink Street after the property owner reported trespassing. When police checked the site, they found multiple improvised shelters, discarded bedding, piles of trash, and widespread contamination from human waste.

According to warrants, officers documented:

  • Roughly 500 pounds of clothing saturated with feces
  • Used toilet paper
  • Beer bottles and cans
  • Grills and debris
  • Soiled mattresses and bedding
  • Electronic motors and other discarded items

State law classifies human feces and urine as hazardous materials, and officers said the volume and condition of the waste met the threshold for criminal charges.

All three suspects were taken into custody without incident. No additional charges have been announced.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
