Freedom & Fellowship Juneteenth Celebration Set for Friday in Whiteville

Community event to honor history, celebrate freedom, and strengthen local unity

WHITEVILLE, NC — The Columbus County DREAM Center and the NAACP Columbus County Branch will host the Freedom & Fellowship Juneteenth Celebration this Friday, June 19, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Whiteville Parks & Recreation Center, 155 Rec Center Drive, Whiteville.

Organizers describe the event as a time to remember the past and build a future together, inviting residents to join in an evening of fellowship, music, and community connection.

The celebration will feature live music, food vendors, and family‑friendly activities, all centered on the themes of freedom, unity, and cultural pride.

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. The holiday, now federally recognized, continues to serve as a reminder of resilience and progress.

The local event aims to bring neighbors together under the banner of “Freedom, Unity, Fellowship,” highlighting the importance of shared history and community strength. For more information 910.642.0633
