FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OAK ISLAND, NC – The shores of Oak Island served as the backdrop for a triumphant return to the wild for several rehabilitated sea turtles. In partnership with the National Aquarium and local public safety departments, the community gathered to witness these protected animals transition back into their natural habitat.
The event highlighted the successful rehabilitation efforts of the National Aquarium, whose specialized care made today’s release possible. Despite minor technical challenges with the live-stream equipment due to the bright coastal conditions, the spirit of the event remained high as residents and visitors gathered to cheer on the turtles’ return to the ocean.
A Community Effort
The success of Oak Island’s sea turtle conservation program relies heavily on local collaboration and the dedication of volunteers and first responders. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to:
Oak Island Police and Fire Departments: For providing essential logistical support and ensuring a safe environment for both the public and the wildlife.
Holden Beach Turtle Patrol & Caswell Beach Turtle Watch: For their continued friendship, onsite support, and commitment to regional conservation partnerships.
The Public: For the overwhelming display of kindness and support, both in person and via our digital channels.
“It was a lovely day with an amazing crowd. We are so deeply thankful for those who share our passion for protecting these creatures. Your support is truly appreciated.”
