SOUTHPORT — A Brunswick County outreach ministry says it investigated reports of people living in the woods behind Lowe’s Home Improvement in Southport but found no signs of a homeless camp in the area.
Volunteers with How Deeply May I Drink Ministry LLC, a registered 501(c)(3) organization, said they received information suggesting individuals were living without shelter in the wooded areas behind Lowe’s. Four members of the ministry traveled from Coastal Church in Shallotte to deliver food and hygiene bags to anyone in need.
According to the group, volunteers searched both wooded sections behind Lowe’s and expanded their efforts to nearby areas, including behind Wendy’s. They reported finding no evidence of a camp or individuals living outdoors.
The ministry is asking the public to share verified information about anyone in Brunswick County who may be living without shelter so volunteers can respond directly.
“We will go. Send us,” wrote ministry representative Ben Proctor.
Residents with information can call or text the ministry’s main number at 910‑888‑7667. Callers may need to leave a message.
The organization says it will continue responding to reports of unsheltered individuals anywhere in Brunswick County.
