Suspect Surrenders in June 4 Incident That Injured Chadbourn Police Sergeant

CHADBOURN, NC — The man accused of injuring a Chadbourn Police Department sergeant during a June 4 pursuit has turned himself in, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said Roderick Terrell Pee, 18, surrendered at the sheriff’s office on June 12, eight days after the incident that left Sgt. Jonathan Driggers injured when officers deployed Stop Sticks during an attempt to stop a fleeing vehicle.

Investigators reported that officers attempted a traffic stop on June 4 when the driver fled, leading to a high‑speed pursuit. Stop Sticks were deployed along the route. As the vehicle approached, debris from the deployment struck Sgt. Driggers, causing injuries that required air transport to Duke University Hospital for emergency treatment. He continues to recover.

Pee, of 1740 Cornwell Ct., Laurinburg, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, assault inflicting serious injury, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, speeding, failure to heed lights and siren, driving left of center, and hit and run involving property damage.

He was booked into the Columbus County Detention Center under a secured bond.
