Federal Review Flags Dosher Memorial Hospital for Price Transparency Violations

Southport facility is the only Brunswick County hospital named in the latest federal enforcement wave.

SOUTHPORT, NC — Dosher Memorial Hospital has been formally warned by the federal government after regulators found the facility out of compliance with national hospital price transparency requirements, according to a notice referenced in a recent Hospital Watch release.

The warning places Dosher is among eleven other hospitals statewide flagged by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for failing to meet federal rules that require hospitals to publicly post clear, accessible pricing information for patients. The requirements in effect since 2021, mandate that hospitals publish both a machine‑readable file of all standard charges and a consumer‑friendly list of at least 300 shoppable services.

CMS issues warnings when hospitals either fail to post the required files, provide incomplete or unusable data, or make pricing information difficult for the public to locate. A warning is the first step in the federal enforcement process, which can escalate to a corrective action plan and, if unresolved, civil monetary penalties.

Dosher Memorial Hospital is the only Brunswick County facility identified in the current enforcement wave. No Columbus County hospitals were named in the available federal or advocacy‑group reporting tied to this round of warnings.

Hospital Watch, a national transparency‑monitoring organization, stated that the 11 North Carolina hospitals cited in the latest review were found to have deficiencies ranging from missing files to non‑compliant formatting. CMS has increased its enforcement activity over the past year, issuing more corrective action plans to hospitals across the state.

Dosher officials have not yet released a public statement regarding the warning, but hospitals typically have a defined period to correct deficiencies and demonstrate compliance to federal regulators.

BCNews will continue monitoring CMS enforcement actions and will update this report if additional hospitals in southeastern North Carolina are named.
