CCSO Warns of Scammers Impersonating Sheriff Bill Rogers to Access Home Security Data

Authorities advise residents to hang up immediately and never share account passwords or system details over the phone.

Columbus County, NC — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office issued an urgent scam alert on Wednesday, April 29, following reports of impersonators posing as Sheriff Bill Rogers. According to authorities, these scammers are calling local residents and attempting to solicit private information specifically related to home security accounts.

The Sheriff’s Office warns that these callers often use familiar names and official-sounding language to pressure citizens into sharing sensitive details. Officials emphasize that Sheriff Rogers will never call to inquire about a resident’s home security account. Furthermore, no member of the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office will contact the public to request passwords, security system specifics, payment information, or other private account data over the phone.

To avoid falling victim to these tactics, residents are advised to hang up immediately upon receiving a suspicious call and to never provide personal information. Authorities also caution against calling back any numbers provided by the solicitor.

If a citizen is unsure of a call’s legitimacy, they should contact the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office directly.
