Emergency Services Issues Advisory as Bladen Wildfire Sends Smoke into Columbus County

COLUMBUS COUNTY — Columbus County Emergency Services issued an advisory Tuesday afternoon warning residents about smoke and ash drifting into the area from a growing wildfire in neighboring Bladen County.

The advisory was released shortly after 4 p.m., noting that fire crews from Columbus County were assisting Bladen County firefighters with a large grass fire burning off Rosindale Road near the Welches Creek Gamelands. The wildfire, which began near a residential area, was reported as uncontained and expanding rapidly, according to the N.C. Forest Service.

Emergency officials said the fire is producing smoky conditions across parts of Columbus County, with some areas also experiencing falling ash. The smoke has been visible from South Whiteville and other nearby communities.

Residents were urged to limit time outdoors, especially individuals with respiratory issues or other health concerns. The public was also asked to avoid the Rosindale Road area while firefighters work to contain the blaze.

The advisory also reminded residents that a statewide burning ban remains in effect, prohibiting all outdoor burning due to ongoing drought conditions and elevated wildfire risk.
