NOAA forecasts elevated high tides during the full moon, with minor coastal flooding possible.

Brunswick County’s next King Tide event is expected May 23–24, coinciding with the full moon and the year’s next perigean spring tide cycle. NOAA tide predictions show elevated high tides building through the week, with the highest levels anticipated during the evening high tides on both days.

King Tides are the highest predictable tides of the year and often produce minor coastal flooding in low‑lying areas.

The Brunswick beaches, include Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle Beach, Holden Beach, Oak Island, and Bald Head Island.

These beaches and the ICW typically see water levels push farther inland during king tides events, especially around inlets, canals, and oceanfront access points with limited dune protection.

NOAA’s current forecast shows high tides approaching or exceeding 3 foot during the May 22–24 window, consistent with previous King Tide patterns along the Brunswick coast. Residents and visitors should use caution near flooded roadways, beach access points, and marsh‑front neighborhoods during peak tide times.

While the King Tide cycle is not associated with a storm system, it can worsen flooding when combined with heavy rain or persistent onshore winds. Brunswick County Emergency Services encourage residents to monitor local conditions and avoid driving through saltwater, which can damage vehicles.
