Columbus County, NC — Fire crews in the Acme‑Delco‑Riegelwood area responded to a woods fire near Old Lake Road beginning around 10:00 p.m. Friday, with units returning several times throughout Saturday, July 4, as the fire continued to burn in dry conditions.

The North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) listed a five‑acre active wildfire in Columbus County on Saturday, consistent with fire activity observed in the Old Lake Road corridor. The NCFS wildfire viewer showed the incident at five acres with containment work ongoing.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Although Columbus County is not under a burn ban, the region is experiencing a dry pattern, allowing the fire to continue burning. Crews worked containment lines through Saturday, and additional responses may be required if any section breaches those lines.

As of Sunday morning, the NCFS still lists the wildfire as active and not yet contained.

No injuries or structural damage have been reported. Coastal Carolina News will update this report as verified information becomes available from local agencies and the North Carolina Forest Service.
