TABOR CITY — Two separate contraband cases were reported Wednesday at the state correctional facility on Prison Camp Road, including the discovery of homemade weapons and a book laced with synthetic drugs.
In the first case, officers recovered a homemade shank and two additional improvised blades from inmates. Document citation: “Item Description: homemade shank… Qty: 1… homemade shanks… Qty: 2.”
Two suspects — a 37‑year‑old Black male and a 26‑year‑old Black male — were identified in the report.
Minutes later, staff located a book laced with K2, a synthetic cannabinoid commonly smuggled into prisons by soaking pages in chemicals. Document citation: “Item Description: Book laced with K2.”
The Department of Public Safety has reported a statewide rise in K2‑related incidents in correctional facilities over the past five years.
All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
