Developer Tucks Their Tail and Withdraws 12,000‑Home Proposal in Northern Brunswick County

Residents pack June 15 meeting as commissioners show no support for the massive project

Northern Brunswick County, NC — A developer behind a proposal for 12,000 homes in northern Brunswick County has tucked their tails and backed away, withdrawing the plan after residents and county commissioners united in firm opposition.

The move came shortly after the June 15, 2026, meeting that drew an over‑capacity crowd to the Brunswick County Government Center. Dozens upon dozens of residents filed into the room to learn about the proposal and voice concerns about its sweeping impact on the Maco Road and Town Creek corridor.

The plan, submitted by Strategic Real Estate Partners LLC, outlined a massive build‑out across more than 4,300 acres between Maco Road/NC 87 and Town Creek Road. It averaged nearly three homes per acre and included commercial centers and schools, forming a development larger than area established towns.

Residents raised concerns about flooding during major storms, traffic congestion, and infrastructure limitations, warning that the project’s scale far exceeded what the area could support.

County commissioners echoed those worries. Several expressed reservations, and none indicated support for the agreement in its current form.

By the end of the night, the developer stepped back. County staff received formal notice from Strategic Real Estate Partners LLC withdrawing the proposed development agreement, removing it from further consideration. Officials noted that while the current plan is off the table, the withdrawal does not prevent the developer from submitting a revised proposal in the future.

For now, residents say as a collective voice, the message was unmistakable and effective.
