Firearm Stolen From Whiteville Home; Deputies Investigating

WHITEVILLE — A Whiteville woman reported the theft of a handgun Wednesday after discovering the weapon missing from her residence.

The incident occurred around 11:42 a.m. at 415 J.K. Powell Road. The victim, Nanette Hamilton, 59, told deputies a Taurus 9mm handgun valued at $300 had been taken. Document citation: “Item Description: 9mm Handgun… Make: Taurus… Value: $300.00.”

The suspect is listed only as a white male, with no additional identifying information.

Firearm thefts in Columbus County have increased in recent years, according to state crime data, often tied to vehicle break‑ins or unsecured storage. Deputies continue to investigate.
