Olivia and Liam Reign Supreme: Social Security Reveals Most Popular Baby Names of 2025

Liam and Olivia hold top spots for seventh consecutive year as Eliana joins the Top 10

For the seventh year in a row, the names Olivia and Liam have claimed the top spots on America’s birth certificates.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) released its highly anticipated annual list on Friday, May 8, 2026, marking a tradition that has become a staple of Mother’s Day weekend. The rankings offer a definitive cultural look through the names parents chose for the nearly 3.5 million babies born in the United States last year.

The Top 10: Consistency with a Twist

While the very top of the list remained frozen in time, there was significant movement just below the surface. On the girls’ side, Charlotte finally broke through to the number two spot, ending Emma’s six-year streak as the runner-up.

The most shocking development for naming experts was the departure of Ava. A top 10 mainstay for years, Ava dropped out of the elite tier entirely. Taking its place at number 10 is Eliana, making its first-ever appearance in the top rankings.

The 2025 Leaderboard

Rank Boys Girls
1 Liam Olivia
2 Noah Charlotte
3 Oliver Emma
4 Theodore Amelia
5 Henry Sophia
6 James Mia
7 Elijah Isabella
8 Mateo Evelyn
9 William Sofia
10 Lucas Eliana

“Fire and Brightness”: The Trendsetters

The SSA also tracks “fastest-rising” names. For 2025, the fastest riser for boys was Kasai, which means “fire” in both Japanese and Swahili. It surged a staggering 1,108 positions to land at number 639. For girls, Klarity led the pack, suggesting a trend toward names that evoke light and transparency.

Social Security Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano released the data alongside a personal message to American families.  “Happy Mother’s Day to all the exceptional mothers who inspire us and guide future generations,” Bisignano said. He reflected on his own upbringing, calling his mother “the glue that held our family together.”
