RALEIGH — North Carolina’s top elected leaders announced Tuesday the formation of a Blue Ribbon Commission on Public Education, a bipartisan effort aimed at evaluating and improving the state’s public school system.
Governor Josh Stein, Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger, and House Speaker Destin Hall jointly unveiled the commission, saying the group will take a comprehensive look at how schools prepare students, support teachers, and operate day‑to‑day.
“Excellent public schools create meaningful opportunity for every North Carolinian to succeed,” Gov. Stein said in the announcement. “This commission represents a bipartisan commitment and an opportunity to make North Carolina’s public schools the best in the nation.”
Berger said the state must continue aligning education with workforce needs. “We need everyone — business leaders, educators, and policymakers — to come together to meet the real‑world needs of our students,” he said.
Speaker Hall echoed that message, calling the commission an opportunity to “take an honest look at what’s working and what isn’t” in public schools.
