Rescue alliance, volunteer pilot, and APS officers join forces to secure new futures for two animals
Columbus County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services is expressing deep gratitude after a coordinated rescue effort sent two dogs to safety by air earlier today.
According to APS staff, Natasha with Shelter Dog Transport Alliance (SDTA) and pilot Mr. Bob volunteered their time and resources to fly out two dogs in need of rescue placement. The department described the moment as a powerful reminder of what compassion and collaboration can achieve.
Animal Protective Services personnel Sgt. Baxley and Officer Parker (pictured) have been working behind the scenes for weeks to secure rescue commitments, manage logistics, and ensure the animals were ready for transport. Their dedication, the department said, is what makes these lifesaving outcomes possible.

One of the dogs transported, Otis, a Boxer mix, has endured significant medical challenges, including heartworm treatment and care for a fracture believed to be the result of an old vehicle injury. SDTA has covered his medical expenses throughout his recovery, giving him the opportunity to heal and move toward a brighter future.
APS officials emphasized that today’s success was a true team effort — from the staff on the ground to the volunteers in the air.
“Thank you to SDTA, Natasha, Mr. Bob, Sgt. Baxley, and Officer Parker for standing by our animals and by Columbus County Animal Protective Services,” the department shared. “We could not do this work without you, and we are endlessly grateful.”
