COLUMBUS COUNTY — County officials say emergency repairs to a damaged water line are temporarily affecting service for customers in County Water and Sewer District One, with crews working through Wednesday to restore full pressure and clear the system.
The county’s utilities department reported a break in a main line serving the southern portion of the district early Wednesday morning. The issue caused low pressure and intermittent outages for homes and businesses along Spivey Ward Road, Nealy Drive, Antinori Drive, Harper Drive, and addresses from 13186 to 14208 James B. White Highway South.
Boil‑Water Advisory Issued
As a precaution, the county has issued a boil‑water advisory for affected customers. Residents are urged to boil water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth until testing confirms the system is safe.
Officials said the advisory will remain in place until laboratory results verify that water quality meets state standards. Updates will be posted on the county’s website and social‑media channels once the advisory is lifted.
Crews Working to Restore Service
Repair crews isolated the damaged section of pipe and began replacement work mid‑morning. Water pressure is expected to stabilize gradually as valves are reopened and air is flushed from the lines.
The county’s utilities office thanked residents for their patience and encouraged anyone experiencing continued discoloration or pressure loss to report it to the after‑hours line at 910‑770‑2158.
Background
County Water and Sewer District One serves portions of southern Columbus County, including rural areas near Chadbourn and Tabor City. Officials said the emergency repair was unrelated to scheduled maintenance and was prompted by a sudden line failure.
