WHITEVILLE — Local agencies are asking residents in flood‑affected communities to share their experiences and ideas during a public meeting today in Whiteville. (Wednesday August 5th)
The session will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Columbus County Commissioners chambers at 127 W. Webster Street. Columbus Soil and Water Conservation District, Cape Fear Resource Conservation and Development, and Moffat and Nichol Engineers are partnering on the event.
Officials said the goal is to develop a Watershed Drainage Management Plan that will outline where flooding occurs, what causes it, and what improvements may help reduce future problems. The plan will focus on identifying trouble spots and evaluating potential solutions across the county’s most flood‑prone areas.
The project is being funded through a federal BRIC Grant, and organizers said community participation is essential. Residents who have dealt with repeated flooding or drainage issues are encouraged to attend and provide input that will help shape the final plan.
