Illegal Dumping Investigation Leads to Arrest on 2025 Violent Felony Warrants

Christopher Mcpherson (CCSO)

WHITEVILLE NC — Whiteville resident Christopher McPherson, 41, of 7142 J.B. White Hwy. South, was arrested early Tuesday morning on a mix of environmental and violent offenses. McPherson was booked into the Columbus County Detention Center at 12:32 a.m. on August 4.

According to arrest warrants, McPherson allegedly dumped a boat, wooden pallets, junk metal, a tiller, and an entire utility building onto a neighboring property he did not own and was prohibited from entering, located at 7118 J.B. White Hwy. Consequently, he was charged with felony littering greater than 500 lbs and second-degree trespass.

However, while deputies were serving him with the summons for the local dumping incident, they discovered McPherson was actively wanted for an unrelated, violent assault case from 2025 involving his then-wife. Outstanding warrants allege that during that previous incident, McPherson struck the woman with a bookbag and a “long brown gun,” which he subsequently fired at her. He is also accused of taking her cell phone during the altercation before fleeing.

In addition to the environmental charges, McPherson was officially booked on one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and two counts of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. His secured bond for the littering charge was set at $250,000, according to official detention center records. McPherson remains held under secured bonds for all charges as he awaits trial.

Any individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Charges and case statuses may change as investigations and court proceedings continue.
