Deputies, Highway Patrol Arrest Chadbourn Man Accused of Stealing Truck and Firearm

CHADBOURN — A Chadbourn man is facing two felony charges after deputies say he stole a pickup truck with a handgun inside and later crashed the vehicle while attempting to flee across the county.

Owen Trent Fowler, 21, of 1502 Shade Fisher Road, was arrested late Monday night and charged with larceny of a firearm and larceny of a motor vehicle, according to the Columbus County Detention Center report you provided.

Truck and handgun reported stolen

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident began just before 9 p.m. Monday, when a Chevrolet truck and a Springfield 9mm handgun were reported stolen from a location on Midway Road. The firearm was inside the vehicle at the time of the theft.

Deputies and N.C. Highway Patrol troopers tracked the stolen truck across the county. The pursuit ended on Joe Brown Highway South, where Fowler crashed the vehicle. Troopers took him into custody without incident, and the stolen handgun was recovered and returned to its owner.

Booking details

Fowler was booked into the Columbus County Detention Center at 11:28 p.m. on April 6, according to jail records. His total bond was set at $20,000 secured.

He remained in custody at the time the report was printed.

No injuries reported

Neither the sheriff’s office nor Highway Patrol reported injuries connected to the crash. No additional suspects were listed in the incident.
