Singletary Appointed to Columbus County Board of Elections Seat

COLUMBUS COUNTY SEAL

COLUMBUS COUNTY — Fair Bluff resident Rodney Singletary, 58, has been appointed to fill the vacant seat on the Columbus County Board of Elections previously held by Jeff Register.

The N.C. State Board of Elections approved Singletary’s appointment during its March 18 meeting, following formal nominations submitted by the N.C. State Democratic Party, according to an NCSBE spokesperson. Singletary was officially sworn into office on March 30, restoring the five‑member county board to full strength ahead of the 2026 election cycle.

Under North Carolina law, vacancies on county elections boards are filled through a party‑nomination process: the political party of the departing member recommends a replacement, and the State Board votes to confirm the appointment.

Singletary, a longtime Fair Bluff resident, steps into the role as the county prepares for a busy year of voter outreach, candidate filings, and primary‑season administration. He said he looks forward to “supporting fair, transparent, and accessible elections for every voter in Columbus County.”

The NCSBE confirmed the appointment and swearing‑in dates through its March meeting records and press communications.
