A New Year’s Eve traffic stop in Tabor City ended with drug charges after police found four adults, a child, and a Great Dane inside a car containing marijuana and crystal methamphetamine, according to police reports.

Chasity Pike, 29, and Heliodoro Noyola, 37, were both charged with maintaining a vehicle for drug activity and possession of crystal meth. Noyola also faces charges of resisting an officer and misdemeanor marijuana possession. He was held on a $10,000 secured bond, while Pike was held on a $2,500 bond. Pike listed her address as 483 Todd Town Road, Clarendon, and Noyola listed 2941 Haynes Lennon Highway, Chadbourn.

Police say Noyola was driving Pike’s Ford Mustang on U.S. 701 Bypass just before 9 p.m., traveling 19 mph over the speed limit. A check of the vehicle’s tag showed it was revoked.

When Noyola pulled out of the McDonald’s parking lot, an officer attempted a traffic stop. Noyola allegedly refused to stop until a second officer blocked the vehicle roughly 500 feet from the state line.

Officers reported a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. Noyola initially refused to exit the vehicle and was detained only after refusing to place his hands behind his back.

Inside the Mustang were four passengers and a Great Dane. According to the report, the passenger seat was missing, and Pike and the dog were sitting on the floorboard. An adult male, an adult female, and a juvenile male were seated in the back.

A search of the vehicle uncovered six grams of suspected crystal meth in a plastic bag on the driver’s side floorboard. Police say Noyola also had a bag of marijuana in his pocket.

Neither Pike nor Noyola claimed ownership of the drugs. The Mustang was impounded.
