Gunfire damages structures at local residential complex; while separate shots heard across city limits.

WHITEVILLE, NC — The Whiteville Police Department is actively investigating an overnight shooting that left one person struck by gunfire and caused structural damage at a local residential complex late Thursday evening.

According to initial reports, officers responded to a shots-fired call at the Covey Run II Apartments, located just off North J.K. Powell Boulevard (US-701). Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered that multiple rounds had been discharged across the property.

The gunfire struck and damaged buildings on the property, creating an active crime scene that drew a heavy law enforcement presence.

Authorities confirmed that one individual was struck by a bullet during the incident. Further details regarding the victim’s identity or condition have not yet been obtained by BC News.

Witnesses in other areas of the city reported hearing additional gunfire at various points throughout the same evening. At this time, it has not been confirmed whether those separate reports are connected to the incident at Covey Run Apartments in the City of Whiteville.

Investigators remained on the scene into the early morning hours collecting ballistics evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. As of Friday morning, the Whiteville Police Department has not released an official public safety advisory, a motive, suspect descriptions, or details regarding potential arrests.
