Whiteville NC – Whiteville Police are urging residents to take simple precautions after a recent uptick in nighttime vehicle break‑ins across the city. According to a public safety message shared Sunday evening, officers say most incidents occur after dark and often involve individuals walking through neighborhoods checking for unlocked doors.
The department is reminding drivers to lock their vehicles, even during quick stops, and to remove valuables such as wallets, purses, electronics, keys, firearms, and packages. Police say thieves are far less likely to target a vehicle when nothing of value is visible.
Residents are also encouraged to stay alert and report suspicious behavior—such as someone pulling on door handles or lingering around parked cars—right away. Officers say timely reporting can prevent crimes and help protect the community.
