Deputies say the felony contraband charge is commonly applied when drugs are found during intake.

SHALLOTTE, NC — Deputies arrested Sara Sellers, 42, on charges of trafficking methamphetamine and possessing controlled substances on jail premises. Under North Carolina law, bringing drugs into a detention facility is automatically a felony, a charge frequently applied when contraband is discovered during booking or intake procedures.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released details about how the drugs were found or whether the trafficking charge is connected to a broader investigation. Sellers remained in custody following her arrest.

Cases involving contraband entering detention facilities have increased statewide, prompting tighter screening procedures and additional safeguards for staff and inmates.

All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Charges and case statuses may change as investigations and court proceedings continue.
