Emergency crews say blocked access points delay critical water‑rescue response.

Oak Island, NC — Emergency services on Oak Island are asking beachgoers to avoid placing tents, chairs, coolers, and other beach setups in designated emergency access points along the shoreline.

The 49th Street Beach Access, pictured here, serves as the primary launch location for the town’s Ocean Rescue jet ski and Water Rescue boat. When beach equipment blocks this corridor, responders must wait for items to be moved before they can reach the water.

Any delays can be critical during active rescue calls, officials say

All emergency access points on the island are marked with clear signage, and the town is urging the public to keep them unobstructed throughout the entire summer season.
