CLARENDON, N.C. — A routine narcotics patrol in the Clarendon community resulted in a drug arrest earlier this month, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives with the Vice Narcotics Unit were conducting targeted enforcement on March 20 in response to what the agency described as a “high volume of citizen complaints” about suspected drug activity in the area. During the patrol, investigators encountered Jesse Lee Reaves, who was found to have an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge, the sheriff’s office said.
During the encounter, detectives reported finding cocaine and drug paraphernalia in Reaves’ possession. He was charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to appear on a misdemeanor. Reaves was taken into custody and held on an $11,500 secured bond.
Sheriff Bill Rogers said the arrest reflects the department’s continued focus on neighborhoods where residents have raised concerns.
“This arrest is another example of how proactive patrol and community information work hand‑in‑hand to address criminal activity,” Rogers said in the release. “We remain committed to following up on complaints and holding individuals accountable.”
The sheriff’s office encouraged residents to continue reporting suspicious activity, noting that community information plays a key role in directing enforcement efforts.
Authorities emphasized that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
