SUNSET HARBOR, NC — The Brunswick County Fishing Club, Inc. will welcome members and guests this Saturday for a community dinner from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., followed by the club’s weekly bingo night at 7:00 p.m. The menu includes chicken bog, yams, and green beans. Dinner is free for members, while non‑members may purchase plates for $15.00. Memberships will be available on-site.
About the Menu — Chicken bog is a traditional coastal Carolina dish made with rice, tender chicken, and smoked sausage, simmered into a hearty, flavorful one‑pot meal. It’s a longtime favorite at community gatherings across the region.
A Community Tradition with Deep Local Roots
The Brunswick County Fishing Club is one of Sunset Harbor’s oldest community institutions, founded in 1971 as a nonprofit dedicated to fellowship, ethical angling, and the protection of local game fish. Long before Sunset Harbor became a modern waterfront neighborhood, the area, then known as Howells Point, was a small fishing settlement with a “fish camp” atmosphere and a tight-knit community built around the Lockwood Folly River.
The club’s history is intertwined with the storms that shaped the region. Hurricane Hazel in 1954 dramatically altered parts of the Sunset Harbor waterfront, and longtime residents recall how the storm influenced early development patterns in the community that would later become home to the club.
What Membership Offers
