Annual ceremony at Sheriff’s Office to recognize officers who made the ultimate sacrifice; community invited to pay tribute on May 12.
BOLIVIA, NC — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office has announced it will hold the Brunswick County Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The solemn event, held at the Sheriff’s Office headquarters at 70 Stamp Act Drive, serves as a formal tribute to the local officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
This ceremony is a dedicated time for the community, active-duty officers, and grieving families to stand together, recognizing the individual legacies of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and offering continued support to the colleagues and families left behind.
The roots of this memorial reach back to 1962, when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. This local observance is held in conjunction with National Police Week, a tradition that has grown from a small gathering in Washington D.C. to a nationwide period of reflection. In Brunswick County, the ceremony has evolved into a vital touchstone for the law enforcement community, providing a space for both public mourning and the celebration of heroic service.
“It is our profound honor to remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “We invite our community to join us in paying tribute to their courage and selflessness.”
The Sheriff’s Office is making a special call for the families of the fallen to attend. To ensure proper accommodations and seating are arranged, families are asked to RSVP by May 4, 2026, by calling 910.253.2736. The public is encouraged to attend the 10:00 a.m. service in Bolivia to stand in solidarity with the men and women who continue to serve and protect the region.
