Free family festival to highlight the region’s rare native Venus flytrap
BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC — Boiling Spring Lakes Parks and Recreation will spotlight one of the region’s most iconic native plants this spring with the BSL Spring Fling: Venus Flytrap Festival, set for May 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the BSL Community Center.
The free, four‑hour festival invites families, nature lovers, and visitors from across Brunswick County to explore the Venus flytrap’s unique habitat while enjoying a full lineup of activities, food, and local vendors.
Organizers say the event blends environmental education with classic community‑day fun. A guided Venus Flytrap Trail will introduce attendees to the plant’s ecology and conservation needs, while a 1‑mile Family Fun Run adds an active start to the day. Children can enjoy a bounce house, face painting, games, and hands‑on activities throughout the festival grounds.
Food trucks and craft vendors will be on site, offering a mix of local flavors and handmade goods.
All proceeds and donations from the event will support the BSL Venus Flytrap Boardwalk Project, an effort to create a dedicated space where residents and visitors can safely view and learn about the rare carnivorous plant that grows naturally only in southeastern North Carolina and a small portion of South Carolina.
The festival will be held at 1 Leeds Road in Boiling Spring Lakes. Admission is free and open to the public.
