Windy but snow‑free Carolinas still impacted by Northeast airport congestion
A powerful nor’easter impacting Long Island, New Jersey, and the broader Northeast corridor is creating widespread air‑travel disruptions Monday, and those ripple effects are now reaching airports in the Carolinas – even though North Carolina itself is only experiencing windy, chilly conditions with no snow.
Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is seeing heavy delays tied to the storm’s impact on major Northeast hubs. Airlines are slowing or holding flights due to congestion at airports in New York, New Jersey, and New England, where the nor’easter is bringing snow, strong winds, and low visibility.
MYR is currently listed under an “excessive delays” designation as carriers adjust schedules around the northern storm.
Wilmington International Airport (ILM) is reporting cancellations and scattered delays, mostly affecting flights routed through storm‑impacted cities such as Newark, LaGuardia, JFK, Philadelphia, and Boston.
While ILM itself is not experiencing severe weather, several arrivals are marked as cancelled and airlines are waiting on updates from northern airports dealing with active winter conditions.
The Carolinas did not receive snow from this system, but the nor’easter’s strong wind field and the heavy winter weather farther north are creating network‑wide slowdowns.
Airlines warn that cancellations/delays may continue through the day as the storm moves up the coast.
Travelers flying through ILM or MYR are encouraged to check flight status frequently, especially if their itinerary includes a Northeast connection.
