Bladenboro, NC — On August 12, a Bladenboro police officer responded to an unexpected call after a turkey reportedly fell from a truck near Seaboard Street and Elizabethtown Road. A passerby notified the officer that the bird appeared injured and unable to move safely.
The officer provided care at the scene before transporting the turkey to a wildlife rehabilitation center for evaluation and treatment.
The incident added a bit of humor to an otherwise routine shift. The scene – an officer helping a turkey that had taken an unplanned tumble – brought to mind the classic WKRP in Cincinnati line, “As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly,” a pop‑culture reference often used to describe unexpected bird mishaps.
The department said the rescue reflects the compassion officers show while serving the community, noting that not every call involves enforcement and sometimes it simply means helping where help is needed.
Bladenboro Police Department continues to serve the community with professionalism, compassion, and dedication.
