Whiteville — A traffic stop conducted by Columbus County Vice/Narcotics detectives led to two arrests and the recovery of multiple types of suspected drugs and a firearm, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives with the Special Operations Vice/Narcotics Unit stopped a 2011 Hyundai Sonata on June 24 while patrolling New Britton Highway in the Whiteville community. Inside the vehicle were two men who initially gave investigators conflicting information. Deputies say the driver provided several false names before he was correctly identified as Chad Dwight Beasley. The passenger was identified as Ronald Ray Beasley.
During the stop, detectives noticed multiple open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle. Based on what they observed, both men were removed from the car and a probable‑cause search was conducted. Investigators say they found suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone, and a firearm in the trunk.
Further investigation revealed that Ronald Ray Beasley is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Both men were arrested without incident, transported for processing, and charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor offenses stemming from the investigation.
Sheriff Rogers said the proactive work of Vice/Narcotics detectives is critical to identifying drug activity and removing dangerous substances and illegally possessed firearms from Columbus County communities.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information about illegal drug activity to contact the agency at 910‑642‑6551 or submit an anonymous tip through its mobile app.
All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
