CHADBOURN — A routine traffic stop in Chadbourn last week led to the arrest of two men accused of trafficking cocaine, following a joint operation between the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Unit and the Chadbourn Police Department.
According to Sheriff Bill Rogers, the stop occurred on April 16 after officers pulled over a Chevrolet Silverado for a window‑tint violation. A Chadbourn Police Department K‑9 conducted an open‑air sniff around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics, giving officers probable cause to search.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Unit searched the vehicle and found what investigators described as a trafficking quantity of cocaine in the possession of Jeffery Collins. Both Collins and the driver, Carl McMillian, were taken into custody at the scene.
Charges
Jeffery Collins is charged with:
- Trafficking in cocaine
- Two counts of conspiracy to traffic in cocaine
- Obstructing justice
- Obtaining a controlled substance by fraud/forgery
- Obtaining property by false pretenses
- Altering, stealing, or destroying criminal evidence
Carl McMillian is charged with:
- Trafficking in cocaine
- Two counts of conspiracy to traffic in cocaine
- Maintaining a place for controlled substances
- Window tint violation
Sheriff Rogers praised the coordinated effort between agencies, saying the operation reflects the county’s commitment to “removing illegal drugs from our streets and ensuring the safety of both our citizens and our officers.”
The Sheriff’s Office said the case underscores its ongoing focus on proactive enforcement and partnerships with local departments.
