Oak Island, NC — Publix Super Markets has expanded its recall of GreenWise frozen fruit products after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) linked additional lots to a possible contamination with E. coli O145, a Shiga toxin‑producing strain that can cause severe illness.
The expanded recall now includes all lots of the following items:
- GreenWise Organic Frozen Blueberries, 10 oz. – UPC 41415‑06453
- GreenWise Organic Frozen Blueberries, 48 oz. – UPC 41415‑12053
- GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries, 10 oz. – UPC 41415‑06753
- GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries, 48 oz. – UPC 41415‑12153
A previously recalled lot of GreenWise Organic IQF Blueberries (Lot 60401, Best‑by Feb. 9, 2028) remains part of the investigation.
According to the FDA, the products were distributed to Publix stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
E. coli O145 infections can cause stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. Some cases may progress to hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious complication that can lead to kidney failure.
Federal health officials report 12 illnesses associated with the outbreak, including four hospitalizations.
Consumers are advised to check home freezers, discard any recalled products, or return them to Publix for a refund. Surfaces and containers that may have come into contact with the berries should be thoroughly cleaned.
