More than 8 million Thermos containers recalled after reports of stoppers ejecting and causing serious injuries
RECALL: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a nationwide recall of more than 8 million Thermos brand food jars and beverage bottles after reports that the stopper can eject forcefully when opened, posing an impact and laceration hazard.
According to the CPSC, the affected products include the Thermos Stainless King Food Jar SK3000 (16 oz), Stainless King Food Jar SK3020 (24 oz), and the Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottle SK3010 (40 oz). All recalled units were manufactured before July 2023 and sold between March 2008 and July 2024 through major retailers including Walmart, Target, Amazon, and others.
Federal safety officials said they have received 27 injury reports linked to the defect, including eye injuries and three cases of permanent vision loss. The issue stems from a missing pressure‑relief feature in the stopper, which can allow internal pressure to build and cause the component to eject unexpectedly.
Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled containers immediately. For the SK3000 and SK3020 food jars, Thermos instructs users to dispose of the stopper and submit a photo as proof. For the SK3010 bottle, consumers must return the entire unit using a prepaid shipping label. Thermos will provide replacement stoppers or replacement bottles at no cost. Processing may take several weeks once verification is complete.
Consumers may contact Thermos customer service at 662.563.6822, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional recall instructions are available at support.thermos.com under the recall section.
