LAKE WACCAMAW — The N.C. Gator Fest returns to Elizabeth Brinkley Park on Saturday, April 25, bringing its largest slate of vendors, entertainment, and family activities since the event began four years ago.
The day starts early with First Send Racing hosting the Gator 5K Walk/Run at 8 a.m., followed by the one‑mile Gator Dash along Columbia Avenue. By 10 a.m., the festival grounds open with more than 50 marketplace vendors, food trucks, children’s attractions, and educational booths spread throughout the park.
Organizers say this year’s festival is designed to be “wall‑to‑wall family fun,” with a free Kids Zone featuring Flimsy the Clown, carnival‑style games with prizes, horse rides, gator‑train rides, a petting zoo, and face painting. The Flamingo Foam Party will run throughout the day, offering a new draw for younger festivalgoers.
Live music will take over the main stage from morning to sundown, with performances by the Patricia Charlton Duo, Chris Nash, Jeffery Simmons, Later Gator, and The Ford Project.
Vendors will offer handmade goods ranging from art and jewelry to baked items and specialty crafts. Festival‑exclusive T‑shirts designed by the East Columbus High School Art Department will also be available in multiple styles and sizes.
Two community partners are adding special attractions this year. Council Tool Company is marking its 140th anniversary with an interactive axe‑throwing event featuring its Flying Fox axe, and the Dixie Youth girls will operate a dunking booth with local volunteers taking the plunge.
Organizers say the event’s growth has been driven by strong community support, but more volunteers are still needed for setup, cleanup, and activity stations. Individuals, churches, civic groups, and businesses willing to help can contact Ginger Dortmund Littrell or message the Gator Festival Facebook page.
Elizabeth Brinkley Park is located at 90 Bald Cypress Circle, just off Sam Potts Highway.
