County agencies partner to promote wellness and protect residents from identity theft

WHITEVILLE, NC — The Columbus County Department of Aging and the Whiteville Senior Center are teaming up once again to host their annual Spring Health Fair and Shred‑A‑Thon, offering residents a one‑stop opportunity for wellness checks, community resources, and safe document disposal.
The free event will be held Thursday, April 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Whiteville Senior Center on Washington Street.
This year’s lineup brings together a wide range of health and safety partners, including the Shred‑A‑Thon Bus, Goshen Medical, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, Gentiva Hospice, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Liberty HomeCare & Hospice, and a Medicare SHIIP representative, along with additional community organizations.
The Shred‑A‑Thon portion of the event is designed to help residents protect themselves from identity theft by securely disposing of sensitive paperwork. Accepted items include old bills, outdated account statements, credit card offers, checks, tax records, and other documents containing personal information.
Organizers say the annual fair provides an accessible way for older adults and community members to connect with local services while taking proactive steps to safeguard their personal information.
Residents are encouraged to stop by, meet local providers, and take advantage of the free resources available.
The event will be held at:
