Surveillance footage and resident reports help deputies close multi‑community case
SUNSET BEACH, NC — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division has concluded an investigation into a series of overnight vehicle break‑ins, thefts from motor vehicles, and stolen vehicle offenses reported across several southern Brunswick County communities during the weekend of June 7, 2026.
Incidents were concentrated in the Sunset Ridge and Seaside Palms neighborhoods in Sunset Beach, the Stanbury Creek community in Supply, and additional areas throughout Shallotte.
Investigators determined that several individuals traveled through residential neighborhoods during overnight hours targeting unlocked vehicles and, in some cases, stealing vehicles. Surveillance footage, witness statements, physical evidence, and recovered property allowed detectives to connect incidents across multiple jurisdictions.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office worked closely with the Shallotte Police Department and Sunset Beach Police Department throughout the investigation. Through coordinated efforts and information sharing, investigators identified those responsible and completed criminal charges and juvenile petitions related to the offenses.
Because residents provided surveillance footage, witness details, and other critical evidence, investigators were able to quickly connect the incidents and close the case.
Safety Reminder for Residents • Lock vehicle doors. • Remove firearms and valuables from unattended vehicles. • Report suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.
