Jones Road culvert replacement aims to reduce flooding, improve drainage during major storms
HORRY COUNTY, SC — Work is progressing on a stormwater improvement project designed to reduce flooding along Jones Road and the Highway 90 corridor in Longs.
Crews are replacing three aging 36‑inch pipes beneath Jones Road with two significantly larger box culverts measuring 6 feet wide by 5 feet tall. County officials say the expanded capacity will help move stormwater more efficiently, improving drainage during heavy rain events and strengthening the area’s overall flood resilience.
Most major construction is expected to wrap up within the next week. The contractor will remain on-site afterward to complete minor restoration work.
This project is one of several funded through a South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) grant awarded to Horry County Stormwater.
