Raleigh, NC — The N.C. State Board of Elections on July 1, 2026 started cautioning voters about inaccurate voter registration mailings sent by Ready to Register Inc., citing outdated forms, incorrect information, and delivery errors.
The mailings used an outdated registration form listing political parties no longer recognized in North Carolina. For 2026, the state recognizes the Democratic, Green, Libertarian, and Republican parties, plus unaffiliated. Forms listing non‑recognized parties are processed as unaffiliated.
Officials also received reports that the mailings were sent to deceased individuals and appear to rely on outdated voter data. Voters additionally reported QR codes that may auto‑populate forms with another person’s information.
“Bulk voter registration mailings, when done carelessly, can do more harm than good,” said Sam Hayes, State Board executive director.
The State Board has contacted Ready to Register to reduce confusion and limit impacts on county offices.
The voter registration deadline for the November 3, 2026 general election is October 9, 2026. Same‑day registration is available during early voting.
