Officer Ward frees distressed bird from waterway after discovering cord and birdhouse wrapped around its body
SOUTHPORT, NC — A routine call turned into a delicate wildlife rescue after Animal Protective Services received a report of a bird struggling in a Southport waterway. APS Officer Ward located the distressed bird and safely captured it using a net.
During the rescue, Officer Ward discovered that a small birdhouse and attached cord had become wrapped around the bird’s lower body, weighing it down and preventing it from flying. He carefully removed the debris and untangled the cord before evaluating the bird’s condition.
The bird was determined to be uninjured and was released back into its natural habitat. Chief Coring commended Officer Ward for his quick response and effective handling of the situation, noting the rescue as a successful outcome for both the animal and the community.
