PRESS RELEASE — Shallotte Police Depatment
Shallotte, N.C. — On January 17, 2026, at approximately 1:47 p.m., the Shallotte Police Department and Shallotte Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire with a person possibly trapped inside at 4730 Milliken Street.
Upon arrival, officers observed smoke coming from the residence and were able to remove one individual from the structure. That individual was transported by Brunswick County EMS to a local hospital for treatment.
During fire suppression efforts, a second individual was located inside the residence and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
One Shallotte firefighter sustained an injury while working to extinguish the fire. The firefighter was transported to Brunswick Novant Medical Center, treated, and later released.
Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including the Shallotte Fire Department, Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department, Civietown Fire Department, Sunset Beach Fire Department, Tri-Beach Fire Department, Shallotte Point Fire Department, Brunswick County EMS, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, the Brunswick and North Carolina Fire Marshal’s Offices, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the Shallotte Police Department, the Fire Marshal’s Office, and the SBI. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
