The Southeastern Community College Foundation is gearing up to “Rock the Yacht” at its annual spring fundraiser, set for 7 p.m. on March 21 at Union Valley Farm and Vineyard. The event supports the RamsFund, which fuels student outreach, scholarships, campus programs, athletics, and other areas of greatest need.

SCC Foundation Executive Director Terrie Priest said the evening will be a relaxed celebration filled with dancing, food, and classic yacht rock music.

“With this being our biggest fundraiser of the year, everyone’s support will contribute to the college’s area of greatest need,” Priest said. “Whether it’s supporting student outreach, scholarships, a campus program, our mini grant program, creating a new program or supporting athletics, this is the one fundraiser that touches the entire campus.”

Guests can expect smooth Yacht Rock favorites performed by Camel City Yacht Club, along with a cocktail dinner buffet. Yacht Rock blends soft rock, pop, and R&B hits from the late 1970s and early 1980s, creating a feel‑good soundtrack for the night.

SCC President Dr. Chris English said he’s looking forward to the upbeat atmosphere.

“Any time we can support the Foundation is a good thing,” English said. “When we can support it and celebrate it at the same time at an event like this, it’s even better.”

New This Year: $5,000 Reverse Raffle

A highlight of the evening will be a $5,000 grand prize reverse raffle, with only 200 tickets available. Tickets are $75 and may be purchased even by those who cannot attend the event.

“While the band is playing and everyone is having a good time, we will be doing a reverse raffle drawdown,” Priest said. “When the last five tickets are about to be drawn, we’ll gather near the stage and count down to the winner. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The event will also feature a silent auction with items from local vendors. Sponsorship opportunities range from $500 to $5,000.

Dress Code: Nautical Fun Encouraged

Priest said this year’s theme is more casual and playful than past President’s Balls. Attendees are encouraged to embrace a nautical look — anything from ship‑captain attire to breezy yacht‑club style.

Think Gilligan’s Island or The Love Boat: stripes, polos, Hawaiian shirts, white pants, loafers, aviator sunglasses, or even formal wear for those who prefer it.

Ticket Options

  • Single admission: $50
  • Couple admission: $100
  • Single admission + reverse raffle ticket: $125
  • Couple admission + reverse raffle ticket: $175

Additional ways to support the Foundation include purchasing engraved bricks for the SCC Bell Pavilion or using the college’s passport service, with all proceeds benefiting the RamsFund.
