A former Columbus County woman has been sentenced in Superior Court following a 2025 traffic fatality involving a motorcycle. Ashley Nichole Spaulding, 34, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor death by vehicle on Monday, April 27.

The charges stem from an incident on March 15, 2025, on Red Hill Road. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Spaulding was reversing a vehicle out of a private driveway when she entered the roadway and struck an oncoming motorcycle operated by 56-year-old Gregory Lynn Jones of Lenoir. Jones tragically passed away from his injuries on March 23, 2025.

A judge sentenced Spaulding to a 75-day sentence in the custody of the Columbus County Sheriff and Spaulding is required to undergo a substance abuse assessment as part of a 24-month supervised probation period. Because she has since relocated, her probation is being transferred to Cumberland County for oversight.
