State investigators now leading review of long‑running Brunswick County case
By BC News Staff Writer
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case of Artis Russell Bryant, a 70‑year‑old man from the City of Northwest who disappeared more than five years ago.
Bryant was last seen around 9;00 a.m. on February 26, 2021. His disappearance was originally handled at the local level, but the case remained unresolved for years.
After reviewing the file, Northwest Police Chief Jason Spivey requested SBI involvement to bring additional resources and a fresh investigative review.
SBI is now the lead agency and is seeking any new information from the public. Tips may be directed to the Northwest Police Department at 910.540.8914, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, or the CUE Center for Missing Persons at 910.343.1131 or its 24‑hour line at 910.232.1687
