COLUMBUS COUNTY — Rock Classics WTXY is preparing to shift its FM presence, after the Federal Communications Commission approved a frequency change for translator W280FO, which rebroadcasts AM 1540 WTXY.
Station owner and morning host Glasgow Hicks said the move from 103.9 FM to 101.7 FM will give listeners a clearer, stronger signal across Columbus County.
“WTXY’s FM signal should never have been on 103.9 to begin with,” Hicks said. “There are stations on 103.7, 104.1, and even other translators on 103.9. With this move to 101.7 FM, our signal won’t have the interference it currently has.”
Hicks also confirmed that Audiotraxx Media Partners is planning to relocate the station’s FM antenna to a new tower site with a height of nearly 400 feet. “This will improve our signal and give us full coverage in Columbus County, plus reach into the surrounding counties,” he said.
Hicks added that WTXY’s 1540 AM signal is expected to return to full power within the next couple of weeks, once a new transmitter is installed. The station has been operating at reduced power since a lightning strike in late 2025 damaged the AM transmitter at the WTXY tower site.
A timeline for the switch to 101.7 FM has not yet been announced, but Hicks said listeners can expect updates on‑air and through social media soon.
WTXY Radio can be heard online at WTXYRadio.com as well as on 103.9FM and AM1540.
